Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning
What is
Refrigeration?
It is the
process in which heat is removed from body or space in such a way that first
its temperature reduced and then maintained at a level below surrounding.
In this
process heat is withdrawn from the desired space and rejected to the atmosphere which
act as a natural receiver.
Insulated
material is used to avoid heat flow from surrounding to enclosed space which is
maintained at a lower temperature.
Application
1.Manufacturing
of ice.
2.Preservation
of medicine.
3.For pre
cooling and pasteurization of milk and in butter preparation.
4.cooling of
cement concreate.
5.liquification
of gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen etc.
6.Preservation
of fruits and vegetable, foods.
What is
Air-Conditioning?
It is the
process in which temperature, moisture, air quality is controlled for an
enclosed space depending on the requirement.
It has two
type
1.Comfort
AC
In this type
different parameter of an enclosed space such as temperature, air quality,
humidity is controlled in such a way that person feel comfortable.
2.Industrial
AC
In this type
space is maintained at a specific condition depends on the application.
Eg.
In the server room a lot of heat is dissipated, so for the proper functioning of equipment low
temperature and accurate humidity is maintained.
In the pharma industry, they need clean air with specific temperature and humidity
Difference
of AC and Refrigeration
1. the
apparatus supplies thermal energy from one place to a place of higher
temperature whereas, in air conditioning, the thermal energy is taken from the air in order to
cool the air.
2.In
refrigeration only temperature is controlled for enclosed space and in air-conditioning,
its temperature, humidity and quality if the air is controlled.
