In today's dynamic and demanding world of construction, Success depends on the efficient procurement of materials, and selection of right contractor. In this complex ecosystem, Intention plays a very important role in the decision any procurement professional is taking as it directly linked with projects goal's.
Intention behind any decision can make big difference between project success or project failure. Intention acts as a guiding principle that influences every decision a procurement manager makes.
Today, in the industry, it is expected from the procurement professional that whatever decision he takes, he will take it with a good intention. Any decision taken with good intention demonstrates ethical behavior and guarantee towards fairness and transparency, Integrity which is the need of the hour in fast moving construction.
When a professional takes a decision with wrong intentions, then he gives importance to his self-interest instead of giving priority to the company's needs and goals. Bad intentions in procurement have always adverse impact on the financial and reputation of the company.

Bad intentions of procurement professional damage a lot to supplier or contractor relationship with company. In decisions taken with bad intentions, most of the times the supplier or contractor does not fulfill its commitment, unfair dealing or failure to honor commitment leads to conflict and supply chain disruption. Reliable suppliers and contractors also distance themselves from such companies, due to which the company faces problem in finding a trustworthy partner and this has a negative impact on future projects.

Workplace ethics also get compromised to a great extent. When procurement is done with a wrong intention because when some work is done with a wrong intention, it creates unethical behavior and as a result a very toxic environment is created. Where the employees feel very pressurized and they feel that they are compromising with their values and the biggest impact of this is on junior and mid-level employees. In such a situation, the company faces a lot of difficulty in retaining good talent and bringing new talent in company.

Consider a scenario where procurement manager had finalized a contractor who is not performing and company asking him to take action. In this case if that contractor was finalized with good intentions then procurement manager fearlessly take action as per contract keeping the priority of organization.
Suppose if that contractor was finalized with wrong intention and manager have taken a favor the it becomes difficult for that procurement professional to take action. An ethical decision always promote transparency and help procurement manager to forge long term partnership with organization.
4. Financial health of Project/Organization
Cost overruns are common problems of construction industry and unethical practices also play important role. Corruption bribe favoritism can inflate the price, eroding the financial health of project as well as company.
Good intentions drive cost-effectiveness. Procurement professionals with ethical intentions try to achieve the best value for money, balancing quality and cost ensuring that projects remain within budget without compromising on standards. This approach fosters a culture of financial prudence and accountability.
Suppose a situation where the professional takes some favour from any contractor, then it is not that the contractor will pay the expenses from his own pocket. Whatever his cost is, he will include it in their proposal, which will ultimately cost to company.
