What happens if you set AC to 30 deg C ?

Friends, winter season is going on and a lot of people think that what happens if they increase the temperature of the air conditioner such as 25'Deg or 30 deg,

will our air conditioner work ?

or it'll start heating up the room ?

the answer is yes and no both ,

It depends on which type of air conditioner you are using

In the market there are generally two types of air conditioners available
One is a heat pump and the second one is a cooling only unit.

If your ac is cool only then it will only cool and don't work in winter for heating. If you set higher temperatures only the blower will run which will act as a normal fan.

And if you have a heat pump type ac then it will start heating the room according to your needs.
These units have a special type of valve( generally called 4 way Valve) which reverses the operation of AC, which helps the unit to provide cooling in summer and heating in winter.

Cooling only units don't have such type of valve, these units are designed only for cooling not for heating.

Let's understand with an example,

In summer our normal room temperature is around 28' C and we set the AC at 24'C
Now compressor will start working and your room will be maintained around set temperature.
In this case your indoor unit i.e. evaporator unit supplies cool Air to the room and the outdoor unit i.e.condensor unit rejects heat.

And in winter our room temperature is around 10'C ( assuming), and you set AC temperatures to 25'C
Then your compressor won't start and only the blower works and acts as a normal fan.

But if you are using heat pump type AC then your compressor will start working to achieve your set temperature,
In this case functioning of odu and idu get's reversed
I.e. your evaporator will act as condenssor which blow warm air to room and condenssor unit work as evaporator.
And all this happens because of the 4 way valve.

Then a thought comes that why shouldn't we buy a heat pump only?
Why to buy cooling only units
Because in heat pump we will get both the option.
The answer lies in two things I.e. cost and need.

The cost of a heat pump is higher than cooling only units.

And the question is whether we really need it.
So if we are living in a place where the temperature drops very low in winter and heating is required then a heat pump would be perfect.
And there is no point in buying a heat pump where only cooling is required.

That's why whenever you buy any Air- Conditioner, keep this in mind.
